Work From Home Wednesday Webinar

The Work From Home Wednesday Webinar is a modular series covering the full range of skills needed to work and lead effectively in a remote or hybrid environment. It spans practical setup and productivity practices (home office readiness, staying focused, setting boundaries, rebuilding daily rhythms and avoiding tech loops and burnout), team-connection practices (Daily Team Check-ins, Virtual One-on-Ones using the GROW coaching model, feedback and coaching basics), and culture-building work (Values Behaviors and Trust discussion exercises, building trust in a Results Only Work Environment). It also covers virtual collaboration and communication mechanics, including running effective Zoom meetings, assigning meeting roles, verbalizing body language on camera, and change-managing new tools, as well as presenting and teaching remotely, using the Rider and the Elephant model to engage adult learners and structured prompts to keep virtual audiences engaged. Workshops built from this deliverable draw a subset of these modules depending on whether the focus is individual productivity, team culture, meeting effectiveness, or remote presenting and teaching.

Tools for Virtual Collaboration

11 exercises · ~60 min

This module builds practical skills for running and participating in virtual meetings, using a remote-work context as its throughline. Participants examine common technical and interpersonal breakdowns in virtual meetings (including a "Virtual Meeting Nightmare" simulation and a comedic video on conference-call failures), then work through concrete fixes: structuring meetings with clear before/during steps, assigning logistical and content roles (facilitator, note-taker, timekeeper, decision-maker, and subject-matter contributors), and compensating for lost body language by verbalizing tone and energy on camera. The module also covers change-management basics for adopting new collaboration tools, including dispelling common myths and identifying shared resources.

TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES FOR UNEXPECTED REMOTE WORK

3 exercises · ~30 min

This module covers the basics of setting up for unplanned remote work, using coverage of a Baltimore Sun story and the 2010 Telework Act's GSA "Recipe Book" as reference points for how organizations have approached telework readiness. Participants review guidance for setting up a home office so they can work effectively when an office isn't available.

Teaching Adults

5 exercises · ~50 min

This module covers how to teach technology and other skills to adult learners in a remote work-from-home setting. It introduces the "Rider and the Elephant" model for understanding the rational and emotional sides of learning, and shows how to "attract the elephant" to build motivation rather than relying on logic alone. Participants also learn practical tactics for setting a positive tone when teaching technology topics, and leave with a "Facilitator Toolbox" of techniques to apply in their own teaching sessions.

REBUILD YOUR DAILY RHYTHMS

6 exercises · ~60 min

This module helps remote and hybrid employees rebuild sustainable daily work habits by addressing two connected problems: burnout and digital distraction. Participants examine how unstructured "tech loops" (repetitive, low-value checking of email, chat, and notifications) erode focus and energy, and learn practical approaches to organizing their time and recognizing early signs of burn-out. The content is built around a work-from-home context, but the rhythms and habits taught generalize to any role where people manage their own schedule with limited structure.

Strengthening Your Remote Culture

3 exercises · ~30 min

This module is built around the challenges of sustaining team culture in a fully remote or hybrid work setting. Participants learn structured practices for staying socially and professionally connected from home, including the Daily Team Check-in, the Virtual One-on-One using the GROW coaching model, and structured team values conversations. Through discussion exercises like "Values Behaviors" and "Trust," participants practice identifying how company values show up (or break down) in remote work, and discuss what it takes to build a genuine Results Only Work Environment (ROWE). The practices generalize to any distributed or hybrid team looking to maintain trust, coaching, and shared values without in-person contact.
