Workshop

Hybrid Work Habits

Hybrid Work Habits is a workshop for building the mindset, environment, and routines that make remote and hybrid work sustainable. Participants set up an effective home office, diagnose personal focus and scheduling patterns, and design a structured daily routine using a Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) mindset. The workshop tackles the root causes of burnout, including "tech loops" and the pressure to appear constantly available, and teaches practices for staying connected as a team, including the Daily Team Check-in, virtual one-on-ones using the GROW coaching model, and structured values conversations. Participants also build practical skills for hybrid collaboration: matching communication tasks to the right tool, running polished virtual meetings, recreating serendipitous idea-sharing through the Virtual Open Space (unconference) format, and planning contingencies for technology breakdowns. One module applies these planning skills to the specific challenge of working alongside children at home, using a "Parallel Focus" framework that generalizes to any situation where caregiving and work share the same space.

Opening: Hybrid Work Habits

6 exercises · ~60 min

This opening module introduces a workshop on building effective hybrid work habits. Participants get oriented to the session's interactive format, then explore the mindset, home-office setup, and scheduling practices needed to work well outside a traditional office. The module also introduces a change-management tool called "Dispel the Myths" to confront common misconceptions about remote workers (e.g., that they are slackers, must constantly prove they're working, or are available at all hours), and uses expert commentary and a live poll to surface practices like pacing and boundary-setting.

Setting up Your Home Office

5 exercises · ~50 min

This module covers how to build a home working environment that supports focus and well-being. Participants work through the mindset and ergonomic setup of a home workspace (dedicated workspace separation, personal touches, posture, and equipment needs), practical strategies for managing distractions and realistic daily habits, and techniques for staying focused and setting boundaries to avoid burnout, including structuring core work hours, managing the work-to-home transition, and daily reflection habits like "Keep/Toss/Create."

Virtual Collaboration Tools and Techniques

3 exercises

This module helps teams work better in hybrid and remote settings by matching communication tasks to the right tool and by sharpening how presenters show up on video calls. Participants map common team needs (quick questions, complex debates, decisions, documentation) to specific channels like Slack, phone, video calls, email, and shared wikis, and set explicit ground rules for virtual meetings (video on, muted mics, no multitasking). They also practice techniques for presenting remotely, including using gallery view and camera placement to read the room, running polls and chat engagement questions, structuring Zoom breakout rooms, and warm-up routines (breathing, posture, energy checks) to project confidence on camera.

Avoiding Burnout

2 exercises · ~12 min

This module addresses burnout in hybrid and remote work, focusing on two root causes: the pressure to visibly prove availability (the "green circle" mindset) and the pull of "tech loops" ??? the sites, apps, and platforms people check compulsively out of habit. Participants examine why constant visibility signals drive burnout faster than workload itself, then use a set of diagnostic questions to identify their own tech loops, what triggers them, and their impact on focus and well-being.

Organizing Your Time

3 exercises · ~30 min

This module helps participants build a structured daily schedule for hybrid or remote work, moving away from ad hoc time use toward proven routines. Participants brainstorm the core elements of a productive day???focused individual work, collaborative work, thinking/reflection time, socializing, breaks, exercise, and morning/evening routines???then diagnose their own work habits by examining when they do their best work, whether they favor solo or collaborative patterns, and how they focus (long uninterrupted stretches vs. short bursts). The module introduces a Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) mindset: there is no universally "correct" time to do something, only what is productive for the individual.

Serendipity

6 exercises · ~60 min

This module teaches how to recreate serendipitous, informal idea-sharing in a hybrid or remote work setting using the "Virtual Open Space" (unconference) format. Participants learn the format's core mechanics ??? participant-suggested topics, group voting to build an agenda, and the "Law of Two Feet" for moving freely between discussions ??? then practice it directly by proposing topics (drawn from challenges raised in a prior "Mashup" exercise), voting on an agenda, and running Zoom breakout room discussions with assigned Facilitator and Scribe roles. The scenario used for practice is a hybrid-team work session, but the Virtual Open Space format generalizes to any setting where you want organic, participant-driven conversation instead of top-down presentation.

Strengthening Your Remote Culture

7 exercises · ~70 min

This module is built around the challenges of sustaining team culture in a fully remote or hybrid work setting. Participants learn structured practices for staying socially and professionally connected from home, including the Daily Team Check-in, the Virtual One-on-One using the GROW coaching model, and structured team values conversations. Through discussion exercises like "Values Behaviors" and "Trust," participants practice identifying how company values show up (or break down) in remote work, and discuss what it takes to build a genuine Results Only Work Environment (ROWE). The practices generalize to any distributed or hybrid team looking to maintain trust, coaching, and shared values without in-person contact.

Contingency Planning

9 exercises · ~90 min

This module covers how remote and hybrid teams prepare for technology breakdowns and keep meetings running smoothly. Participants learn to plan and agree on backup communication channels (phone bridge, Slack, shared docs) ahead of time, apply Zoom settings and participant-list tools to run cleaner virtual meetings, and use on-camera practices like camera height and lighting to present themselves well on video. It also surveys a range of shared tools for remote collaboration, socialization, feedback, and accountability (e.g., Donut, Chimp or Champ, idonethis, WooBoard, Jamboard, Miro, Loom), discussed through chat-based sharing of what participants already use.

Working with Kids at Home: Content and Activity Ideas

10 exercises · ~100 min

This module helps remote workers balance job responsibilities with childcare by building a custom daily family schedule. It's built around the pandemic-era work-from-home-with-kids scenario, and the core planning method ??? the "Parallel Focus" framework, which matches child supervision needs to your required work focus levels ??? generalizes to any situation where caregiving and work happen in the same space. Participants map their own work activities by focus level and their child's activities by supervision level (including with a co-parenting partner) to draft a first-pass family schedule, and review a curated list of kid activities and content (art, STEM, music, crafts) to fill supervised or self-directed time blocks.
